IMACS did more than just teach me the fundamentals of computer science. It taught me that solutions to big and small problems will never come easily, and the only way to approach them is with tenacity and persistence.
Adrian Abedon from IMACS in 4th Grade to Carnegie Mellon!
Adrian first attended IMACS as part of Hi-Tech Summer Camp before starting 4th grade. He excelled in Mathematics Enrichment , Computer Enrichment , and university-level courses in Computer Science . Adrian scored 34 out of 36 on the ACT and graduated with a 4.93 GPA. He was named a National Merit Commended Scholar and National AP Scholar and was selected to receive the Xerox Award for Innovation and Information Technology.
The experience of refurbishing a computer for a child in need led Adrian to create the nonprofit organization DinoTech Foundation during his junior year of high school. DinoTech’s mission is to ensure that disadvantaged children in local communities are empowered learners by giving them free refurbished computers. To date, Adrian and his team have refurbished and donated 70 computers.
Adrian was accepted at Carnegie Mellon University’s School of Computer Science, Georgia Tech, Johns Hopkins, Harvey Mudd, Rice, Tufts, Northeastern, RIT, Case Western, WPI, and the University of Florida. He was awarded a prestigious scholarship or grant by all 11 institutions. Adrian chose Carnegie Mellon where he will major in Artificial Intelligence. He plans to gain experience in the field by working for a large technology firm and then start his own company.
